ROBBIE SHIELDS WINS LEAGUE MVP
Third-place Clark Griffith League team has three players in All-League Team

MCLEAN, Va. August 24—The McLean Raiders capped off a terrific first season in the premier Clark Griffith League with a second-place finish in the All-American Amateur Baseball Association National Tournament. 

On Friday, several Raiders players received recognition for their hard work this season as the Clark Griffith League announced its All-League Team. 

Robbie Shields walked away with the top player honor, being named the 2007 Most Valuable Player.   Shields, a rising sophomore from Florida Southern, helped lead the Raiders to a second-place finish in the All-American Amateur Baseball Association National Tournament in Pennsylvania.  Shields batted .307 with 27 RBI and 10 home runs.  Shields tied with Sam Honeck and Alex Gregory for most home runs this season.  The Raiders went 24-17 in league play this season.

Two other members of the Raiders team also were selected as members of the All-League Team.  LaDale Hayes, an outfielder who began the season with the DC Grays, and utility player Jason Kitchen, who started with the Bethesda Blue Caps, were part of McLean’s AAABA run, and were successful in that tournament.

LaDale Hayes, a rising junior at Alabama A&M, was another strong batter and fielder for the team.  Hayes batted .286 this season and had 2 home runs and 19 RBI.  Hayes, who typically played center field, had a .972 fielding percentage and had 63 put outs with 7 assists.  

Jason Kitchen, a rising sophomore from Burtonsville, MD., was another solid player in the League this season.  Kitchen batted .310 this season with a home run and 14 RBI.  He stole 15 bases this season. 

The McLean Raiders are proud of the success of its players this season, and look forward to another strong, successful season next summer.
